Dance Physiotherapy

Strong. Graceful. Resilient. Become the dancer you were born to be.

Physiotherapists experienced in dance are best positioned to understand your injury from initial tissue pathology through to the demands of dance – whatever age – baby ballerinas to professional dancers.

  • Remove pain caused when dancing
  • Reduce recurrence of injuries
  • Prevent dance related injury
  • Rehabilitate completely to get back dancing worry free
  • Complete your pre-pointe assessment and progress confidently to pointe work
  • Improve performance

The treatment of dance injuries is complex and requires more than ‘rest from dance for six weeks’. Due to the repetitive nature of dance training, injuries that are not rehabilitated properly will most likely reoccur and may affect your ability to perform at your best.

Our SquareOne Dance Physios deliver individualised care for dance injuries which will get you back on stage and reduce your risk of suffering the same injury again. We have a strong belief in prevention and we also conduct a biomechanical analysis of you or your dancers. We aim to identify any areas of concern and provide a pathway to improving movement and staying injury free. We regularly correspond with Dance Schools to provide the best possible pathway of care. We see all dance styles including ballet, contemporary, jazz, hip hop, pole and lyrical.

Pre-Pointe assessments

Starting to dance en pointe is a rite of passage for any aspiring ballerina and a very exciting time for your child or student. They will be excited but you need to be aware that this is not a normal function of the human foot and you need to make sure they are ready for the demands of dancing on their toes to prevent lifelong injury or pain.

Having a pre pointe assessment is essential before embarking on this journey.
Physiotherapists experienced in ballet are the best positioned Health Professionals to provide pre-pointe assessments. We will look at the whole body as a system (not just the feet) because your child is about to balance on a shoe platform that is smaller than your palm and this requires a large element of strength and control. It is vital to find any deficits in strength, flexibility or control and improve these before allowing your child or student to safely dance en pointe. Our SquareOne Pre-Pointe Assessments will take a full biomechanical analysis and functional movement screen of your child. We will advise if they are ready to dance en pointe or not and we will provide a complete pathway to ensure they get there safely.

  • Biomechanical analysis
  • Functional Movement Screen
  • Pathway to ensure successful and confident transition to pointe work
  • Comprehensive to prevent lifelong injury or pain

All our Dance Physiotherapists remain up to date with the latest research and treatment methods and are members of the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science.
