New Year, Fresh Start…

But let’s be honest – how many resolutions have quietly slipped away by February? We’ve all been there!

What if this year could be different? At SquareOne, we’re not just about setting goals – we’re about making them happen.

Here’s what makes the difference, make them SMART:

Turn “I want to get fit” into “I’ll walk for 30 minutes every Tuesday and Thursday morning”, replace “I should exercise more” with “I’ll do two 45-minute strength training sessions per week” and swap “My back needs to get better” for “I’ll complete my physio exercises every morning before work”.

See the pattern? It’s all about being SMART:

Whether you’re dreaming of running your first 5K, wanting to play with your kids without back pain, or simply aiming to feel stronger – we’re here to help turn those goals into reality.

So big goals sound great… but how do you actually know if a goal is achievable?

If you have ever had an injury, you have probably heard the phrase load management.

At SquareOne, we love big, slightly scary goals. The key is making those goals work for you, where you are right now.

You cannot jump from walking 10,000 steps a week to 10,000 steps a day overnight. Your body will not know what hit it, and it simply will not keep up with that load. The same goes for strength training. You cannot go from bench pressing 20kg to 50kg in three sessions. That takes time, consistency, and often support from a professional.

Load management can feel easy at first. You might even feel great… until a few weeks later, when your muscles and tendons cannot keep up anymore. That is the danger zone, and where injuries often creep in.

A simple rule of thumb is to increase your load by no more than 10% per week. For example, if you run 10km across three sessions this week, aim for around 11km across three sessions next week. Simple in theory, but not always easy to get right.

That is where we come in.

Whether your goal is skiing for four weeks straight later this year, climbing to base camp, or stepping into a gym for the first time to help build bone density, these goals are achievable.
