Avoid that winter feeling

Return to Blog Articles

Winter means yummy winter food which is often high in calorie content. Out go the salads and in comes the potato and rice! Shorter days with cold and dark mornings and evenings often means less exercise.

But remember, whilst it is so nice and snug under those blankets, exercise will keep you motivated and energised all winter and summer is really just a few months away!

Tips to get you up and out of bed on cold winter mornings:

1. Get the blood moving before you get up:.
– Bend knees and roll them side to side ten times
– Stretch out like a starfish
– Sit up on the edge of the bed and twist to each side for 5 seconds

2. Let there be light

2. Let there be light
Open the shades and let the light in or ensure a bright light comes on soon after waking. This will kick-start your body’s internal clock to allow your natural rhythms to start their up cycle for the day.

3. Get your self organised the night before
Lay your exercise clothes out at the bottom of the bed before you go to sleep so you just need to get up, quickly dress and get out the door before you even realise!

4. Think about how you’ll feel if you don’t get up!
Live by no regrets. You’ll always feel great afterwards and personally I have never regretted getting up for and exercise session unlike the odd morning I have stayed under the covers! Don’t give yourself the option.

5. Go shopping..(yes I know.. good excuse!)
Research tells us that women are more likely to exercise if they have the right clothes for the job. If you feel warm and look good then there really are no more excuses! Dress in layers so you can take them off as you warm up. Works for guys too!

6. Meet a friend:
Then you really have to get up..this is the fail safe method!
