IRB Junior World Cup Update #4

Return to Blog Articles

Rugby followers at home may have already seen our below standard performance against the French at Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday night. Playing at this venue was a huge honour for our boys as no senior Wallaby side has ever played here. Unfortunately our boys failed to fire and turned in a below par performance that had us on the back foot right from the start. The French came out and played at a higher intensity than we could match for the first 30 mins resulting in us being in contact but 14-7 down at half time. An encouraging last ten minutes of the first half had us believing that we could turn things around in the second half but this didn’t happen and the score blew out to 31-7 with us failing to score any points in the second half. Hugely disappointing as we have now ended the group stages in 8th place meaning that we now play off with France, England and Ireland to determine places five through to eight. After a few days of constructive self analysis we play the French again at the historic Newlands Stadium on Sunday. A chance to redeem ourselves and have another shot at the French will hopefully be all the motivation we need to finish the tournament on a high. I’ll keep you posted.
