Do you want your SquareOne Physio’s to be up to date with the latest research and knowledge in their field? Over the long weekend Holly, Campbell and Lauren spent five days up on the Gold Coast at the biannual Australian Physiotherapy Conference. This brings together 2000 of Australia’s leading Physio’s and is a forum for new research, innovations and ideas that we can bring back to our patients. Holly with her role as the Sports Physiotherapy Australia National Chairperson and was involved in strategic meetings, planning for 2016 and chairing various sub committes as well as interviewing presenters for podcasts.
Highlights included a great full day workshop on diagnosing, treating and managing hip pain. Significant amounts of high quality research was presented covering topiucs such as the latest on tendon injury management, athlete load monitoring from the AIS, outcomes following ACL reconstructions and their association with osteoarthritis, the high incidence of urinary incontinence in female athletes and strength and conditioning roles for Physiotherapists. Lauren spent plenty of time discussing shoulder injury management with leaders in this field from across the country and Campbell was involved with the inaugral BikeFIT group that will be pushing for Physiotherapists to be involved with fitting bikes. A stand out presenter was Todd Sampson who had the audience engaged for an hour when he talked about neural plasticity and his ABC TV show Redesign my Brain.
It was a highly motivating five days away and gave us many ideas that we’ll be implementing into our daily practce at SquareOne to help improve our patient’s move better, feel better and embrace life!!
