Pre-Pointe assessments
Starting to dance en pointe is a rite of passage for any aspiring ballerina and a very exciting time for your child or student. They will be excited but you need to be aware that this is not a normal function of the human foot and you need to make sure they are ready for the demands of dancing on their toes to prevent lifelong injury or pain.
Having a pre-pointe assessment is essential before embarking on this journey.
Physiotherapists experienced in ballet are the best positioned Health Professionals to provide Pre-Pointe Assessments. We will look at the whole body as a system (not just the feet) because your child is about to balance on a shoe platform that is smaller than your palm and this requires a large element of strength and control. It is vital to find any deficits in strength, flexibility or control and improve these before allowing your child or student to safely dance en pointe. Our Pre-Pointe Assessments will take a full biomechanical analysis and functional movement screen of your child. We will advise if they are ready to dance en pointe or not and we will provide a complete pathway to ensure they get there safely.
